BrowZine Adds New Content from LWW
BrowZine, Himmelfarb Library‘s e-journals app, now features easy iPad access to over 300 additional journals. The newly available titles are published by Lippincott Williams and Wilkins (LWW) and expand Browzine’s journal holdings which already included journals published by Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, Nature, and more.
BrowZine is a new technology which allows GW affiliates to read their favorite Himmelfarb Library journals on their iPads. BrowZine allows users to select their favorite titles and track issues and articles via a single app.
With the addition of the LWW titles, it will be easier than ever to read journals such as Academic Medicine, American Journal of Nursing, Circulation, Epidemiology, Journal of Nursing Administration, and Journal of Public Health Management & Practice on the iPad. You can download BrowZine to your iPad through the Library’s new App Shelf.
Durable links & Ovid resources
Many faculty members create durable link to journal articles, books, and databases to provide their students direct access to readings and resources. Due to a vendor-initiated change, links to resources offered via Ovid Technologies which were created prior to December 2013 will need to be updated.
To update your links with a current durable URL, you can do any of the following:
- Access the resource, and then click on "Email Jumpstart" or "Email PDF Jumpstart".
- Email Laura Abate (leabate@gwu.edu) a list of the resources.
What is the role of spirituality in health sciences education?
GW faculty Christina Puchalski, Benjamin Blatt, Mikhail Kogan, and Amy Butler wrote an article that appears in the latest issue of Academic Medicine examining this issue. In this article, the authors describe the history of spirituality and health:
Spirituality has played a role in health care for centuries, but by the early 20th century, technological advances in diagnosis and treatment overshadowed he more human element of medicine. In response, a core group of medical academics and practitioners launched a movement to reclaim medicine’s spiritual roots, conceiving of spirituality as more than religion and ethics and defining it as each person’s search for meaning and purpose.
This article can be accessed as part of Himmelfarb Library's full-text collection. Himmelfarb Library's collections also include additional materials for learning more about spirituality and healthcare including:
