Due to cool weather, the cherry blossoms still haven't arrived so we have postponed the Cherry Blossom Walk!  The new date is Tuesday, April 9 at 4 p.m.  You can check blossom conditions via the National Park Service's Cherry Blossom Web Cam.

New to DC and haven’t seen the cherry blossoms?  Lived here for years and can’t get enough?  Take a study break and enjoy the cherry blossoms on a brisk afternoon hike around the tidal basin.  Led by a Himmelfarb librarian and part of Healthy Living @ Himmelfarb, the walk will start at Himmelfarb, pass under the cherry blossoms along the Potomac and around the tidal basin, and then loop back to Himmelfarb via the National Mall and the reflecting pools.  We will head out at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 for this 4.3 mile, approximately 2 hour walk.  If you’d prefer a shorter walk, we’ll also let you know about partway through so you follow the path back to Himmelfarb.   Register and join us!

Library Catalog (New)Himmelfarb Library is switching to a new Library Catalog and circulation system.  As we migrate over the next week some records in the catalog and Health Information @ Himmelfarb may not reflect the true status of the item.  Please contact the Information Desk at 202-994-2850 and ask us if you have any difficulty locating materials or questions about the new catalog.  We also encourage library users to contact the Circulation Desk at 202-994-2962 for assistance with renewal and hold transactions.  Thank you for your patience as we complete the transition.

TurningPoint 5.0 is coming to Ross Hall!  In the next several weeks, TurningPoint 5.0 will be installed on instructor stations.  Instructors will be able to download TurningPoint 5.0 from Novell-Delivered Apps and it is also freely available from the Turning Technologies website.  The change to TurningPoint 5.0 will not require any action by students; clickers should continue working with no changes.

While TurningPoint 5.0 offers many new options for integrating polling and audience response into instruction, the integration with PowerPoint remains relatively unchanged.  The following instructions are intended to help you get started and make a smooth transition into using TurningPoint 5.0 in your teaching.

TurningPoint 5.0: Loading & Starting a Presentation.

  1. Insert TurningPoint flash-drive receiver.
  2. Start TurningPoint program.
  3. Select PowerPoint Polling.
  4. PowerPoint will open with the TurningPoint tab.
  5. Open your PowerPoint presentation containing TurningPoint questions.
  6. Start Slideshow to begin presentation.

TurningPoint 5.0 Settings

  • TurningPoint 5.0 will work with Blackboard for instructors who track TurningPoint responses to individual students/clickers.
  • Select Receiver to confirm receiver channel.  Standard/default receiver channel is 41.
  • Select Reset then Session to clear previous data from TurningPoint slides.
  • Select Live Polling rather than Simulated Polling; the Simulated Polling setting can be used to test appearance of TurningPoint slides without installing a receiver or using clickers.
  • Note: instructors no longer need to specify the number of clicker devices (i.e. students); TurningPoint will accept as many clickers as are submitted during a session.
