Enjoy outdoor winter fun! The Washington Harbour Ice Rink transforms its picturesque fountain and is open for recreational skating every day. Be sure to check out skating lessons from their Fireworks Skating Academy.

The District’s Holiday Boat Parade

Head to the DC pier for the 30th Anniversary of the District’s Holiday Boat Parade. Celebrate the holidays with this iconic DC event that features over sixty beautifully decorated boats parading along the Washington Channel. Get into the spirit with holiday ornament decorating, family photos with Santa, and live music under their lighted Christmas tree.

St. Nicolas Holiday Market - Holiday Open House

Grab your mat and water bottle and make TriFit your healthy happy hour! Enjoy safe, fun, and free outdoor Yoga or Yoga Sculpt Bodyweight (Tuesdays with CorePower) and Pilates (Wednesdays) classes taught by certified fitness instructors. Classes are weather-dependent. Bring your yoga mat, towel, and water bottle, and wear comfortable workout clothes.

Rock the Park DC - Outdoor Music Series

The new and improved Franklin Park hosts its inaugural concert series, Rock the Park DC. This series will cover a broad spectrum of genres including jazz, soul, R&B, reggae, hip-hop, electronic, and soulful house music.

National Book Festival

“Bring Us Together” is the 22nd Annual Library of Congress National Book Festival theme. The event is free and open to the public. Join local yoga instructors for our 8th annual summer Sunday yoga series at Dumbarton House. Attendees should bring their own mat and must complete a waiver to participate.

National Independence Day Parade

Friday Night Dancing: Swing Dance

The Transit Pier holds free-themed dance nights on the second Friday for the months of June, July, and August. Professional dancers will be on hand to help you learn dance moves. Enjoy a night of dancing and cocktails.

Sport & Health and Barracks Row Main Street have teamed together to offer Fitness in the Parks - a series of FREE outdoor fitness classes designed to encourage physical activity and healthy lifestyles for all fitness levels. The community can join all summer long at parks for fun classes like Zumba, yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, and more. Classes
maybe canceled due to inclement weather or wet grounds.

Jane Austen Film Festival

In this 7-week Beginner course, you will learn to make healthy, delicious Mediterranea recipes. After the Beginner course, participants can take the next-level Intermediate course.

Capital Pride Festival

Running of the Chihuahuas

DC’s funniest Cinco de Mayo celebration returns for a day of fun and festivities. Celebrate the 10th Annual Running of the Chihuahuas! The day will include cold Pacifico beer, live music, family fun, and of course, the races! The highlight of the afternoon, the races features over 90 Chihuahuas racing in groups of eight on a sixty foot “race track.” ALL race proceeds benefit Rural Dog Rescue. Don’t have a Chihuahua? You can still take part in the excitement with the all-breed contest for best dressed dog! There will also be giveaways from DC’s pet friendly businesses. This is a family and dog-friendly, admission-free event.

Dance Classes with the Washington Ballet

After a couple of crazy years, the festival is returning this spring for the 19th DC Dragon Boat Festival. Get out on the water to watch a great race with cultural activities. Plans are currently being finalized for the 2022 DC Dragon Boat Festival.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade
Date: Saturday, April 9, 2022
Time: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Location: Constitution Avenue NW, between 7th and 17th Streets
Cost: $25-$30

The energy-filled parade runs for 10 blocks along Constitution Ave. Grand colorful helium balloons, elaborate floats, marching bands from across the country, celebrity entertainers, and performers burst down the Parade route in a spectacle of music and showmanship seen only once a year during the Festival! Portions of the parade are free for the public to view along the route and are first-come, first-serve. Tickets are available for reserved grandstand seating in the performance areas of the parade.

Moonshot Studio Workshops: Celebrating the More-than-Human World
Date: Creative Workshops through May 8, 2022
Location: Kennedy Center Moonshot Studio
Cost: Free

Join the Moonshot Studio for a series of activities that uplift the magic and wisdom of the landforms, animals, plants, and other living organisms who share this beautiful planet. Workshops include Love Letters to the Land, Critter Collage, other drop-in activities, and Moonshot activities you can do at home. *Registration for a given date will open on a rolling basis, opening every Monday for the subsequent weekend.

National Park Week
Date: April 16-24, 2022
Cost: Enjoy FREE entrance day on April 16th.

During the presidentially proclaimed National Park Week, join with the National Park Foundation to celebrate America’s treasures. National Park Week is a time to explore amazing places, discover stories of history and culture, help out, and find your park. Parks across the country will host a variety of special programs, events, and digital experiences. Entrance fees are waived on April 16 to kick off National Park Week and encourage everyone to enjoy their national parks

GW Electronic & Computer Music Outdoor Concert

GW Learn Argentine Tango for Free
Date: Fridays in March

The GW Argentine Tango Club offers dance classes and social dances which provide an excellent opportunity for interaction between all members of the community and a means of escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. No experience or partners are required. Tango classes offer workshops of musicality and cultural lessons about tango to promote diversity and cultural exchange.

National Academy of Sciences Building (NAS) Exhibitions

Walking distance from GW campus, visit the NAS while you can. Although the NAS Building is closed to the public, you can reserve a ticket to visit the building and see the special exhibitions on view. Current exhibitions include:

Blossom Kite Festival

Virtually: learn how to make and fly kites with virtual workshops

The Blossom Kite Festival is a long-standing DC tradition encouraging attendees of all ages to fly kites among the cherry blossom trees. The iconic outdoor event is fun, free, and open to the public. This year will feature both virtual and in-person options so that you can fly your kite from your favorite neighborhood park or anywhere across the globe.

Open Rehearsal: American Ballet Theatre
Location: Kennedy Center Opera House
Date: Thursday, March 31, 2022
Time: 1:30 pm
Cost: $15 Tickets

Join dance scholars for an insider’s look at the visiting ballet company as they prepare onstage for the performance. Dance scholars provide informational commentary, via wireless headsets, about the choreography, dancers, and history of the form as the companies rehearse on stage. A headset is included with the ticket and distributed before the rehearsal at the Assisted Listening Device Booth in the Hall of States. The seating location is at the discretion of the company.
