Working on your end-of-semester papers? Need some writing help? You have one last chance this semester to book a slot with one of the Writing Center's graduate writing consultants based at Himmelfarb Library. By special arrangement, Justin Kuprevich will be available tonight (Monday, Dec. 8th) from 4-7:00 pm on the first floor of Himmelfarb Library.

To book an appointment with Justin, please call the Writing Center at 202-994-3765. Justin will also accept walk-ins if all of the appointments are not filled.

Facilities will be testing the electrical system on the evening of Thursday, September 11.  From Thursday at 10:30 PM until Friday at 6:00 AM, Himmelfarb Library and parts of Ross Hall will experience rolling blackouts.  For safety reasons, we are requesting that all patrons move to the first floor of Himmelfarb by 10:30 PM.  The book stacks, 2nd and 3rd floors, and the elevator will be unavailable for the duration of the test.

As of Monday, January 13, you will have the ability to reserve some of the group study rooms that are located on the 2nd and 3rd floor of the Library from the Library's website or your mobile device.  From the website, please visit the Study Room Reservations page to view available rooms and make a reservation.  From your mobile device, simply scan the QR code that is located outside of each reservable room and make your reservation instantly.

You may schedule a room up to seven days in advance.

Update: GW1X wireless is restored with reduced capacity.  The Division of Information Technology (IT) is working to restore full capacity as quickly as possible.

A service outage is currently affecting GW1X wireless services. Users are currently unable to connect or log in to GW1X. The Division of Information Technology (IT) is aware of this issue and is working to resolve it as soon as possible; follow-up status updates will be provided when the outage is resolved. In the meantime, please visit http://itsupport.gwu.edu for more information.

Due to construction, there will be electrical outages in the Himmelfarb over the upcoming weekend. Himmelfarb Library will close at 11pm on 10/11/2013 and reopen at 4pm on 10/13/2013.

The following alternative study space will be available:

Hospital rooms 6101, 6108, 6111, and 6117 and the computer lab are reserved the entire weekend for quiet study. All other study rooms on the 6th floor of the Hospital are available for study when unscheduled. Library reference staff will be available to help with research questions, renew books, etc. from noon until 4pm on 10/12/2013 in the Hosptial’s 6th floor computer lab. Use the “ask us” feature on the Library’s home page (www.g.wumc.edu/library) to submit questions from wherever you are studying!

Burns Law Library: Students may access the Burns Law Library for quiet study this weekend only. No passes needed. Please have your GW id ready to show. The Burns Law Library is open from 8am until 11:45pm on Fridays and from 9am until 11:45pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Gelman Library: This Library remains open 24/7 during the fall 2013 semester. The Eckles Library on the Mount Vernon campus is open at the following times: Fridays 8am until 10pm, Saturdays 10am-10pm, and Sundays 10am-3am.

If you like the convenience and ease of searching Google and Google Scholar, but are concerned about the quality and availability of results retrieved, Himmelfarb Library may have a solution. Health Information @ Himmelfarb is a new search tool that replaced the multidatabase search this summer. You can use Health Information @ Himmelfarb to enter keyword searches and retrieve health sciences-focused content that is in Himmelfarb's collections. This includes full-text access to many of Himmelfarb's electronic resources, and records from the Library Catalog to locate print and multi-media resources.

Health Information @ Himmelfarb will be available as a pilot project throughout the upcoming academic year and we will be evaluating and fine-tuning it as the year progresses. Visit the Health Information @ Himmelfarb FAQ for more information and use the feedback form to share your comments or get answers to questions.

Himmelfarb Information Portal

You can use HIP to enter keyword searches and retrieve health sciences-focused content that is in Himmelfarb's collections. HIP will be available as a pilot project throughout the upcoming academic year and we will be evaluating and fine-tuning it as the year progresses.
