Today is the Day...Himmelfarb Library’s 2016 Art Show!

The Art Show is an annual tradition here at Himmelfarb Library during which the first floor is transformed into an art gallery, featuring phenomenal pieces from members of our community.

Join us for the Opening Reception from 4:00pm-5:30pm TODAY on the first floor of Himmelfarb Library for the chance to support your friends, classmates, professors and deans as we celebrate their artistic talents!  Peruse the art, talk with the artists, and eat some delicious (free) food!

The Art Show will be on display until May 7th, 2016.

We are still accepting submissions through April 1st from students, staff, residents, and faculty of SMHS, GWSPH, SON and GW Hospital.  Drop off your masterpieces at the Reference Desk Monday-Thursday 8:30am-8:00pm, Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, and Saturday 12:00pm-4:00pm.

Doodles, ceramics, origami, paintings...all are welcome!

Distance Education students are encouraged to submit.

The 2016 Himmelfarb Library Art Show will take place from April 7th to May 6th on the first floor of Himmelfarb Library.

The Opening Reception will be held on April 7th from 4:00pm-5:30pm.

Refreshments will be served.

All Students, Faculty and Staff of SMHS, MISPH and SON, as well as Residents and GW Hospital staff are encouraged to submit artwork.

Submissions range from pottery, paintings, jewelry, drawings, clothing, and more!

We will accept all submissions at the reference desk of Himmelfarb Library from March 7th until March 31st, Monday-Thursday 8:30am-8pm and Friday 8:30am-5pm.

Distance Education students are encouraged to submit.  Contact us for details!

Submissions will have the option to be displayed in the virtual art show on the library website. (Last year's virtual art show can be viewed here: http://hsrc.himmelfarb.gwu.edu/artshow_gallery_2015/)

spoolWould you like to learn a new skill or pick up a fun hobby?

Join Healthy Living@Himmelfarb for a Weaving Workshop, taught by Sandy Hoar.  The workshop will be held at the Himmelfarb Library in Room 202 on Wednesday, March 23rd at 12:00 PM.

In the past, Sandy taught a chain mail jewelry workshop at  Himmelfarb Library. Healthy Living@Himmelfarb is excited to welcome Sandy back this year to teach a selection of weaving projects to GW participants. Sandy is an Assistant Clinical Professor at George Washington University with an enviable arsenal of crafts knowledge. All weaving enthusiasts are welcome, from beginner to advanced levels.

Bring your creativity and a smile. Materials are supplied. Registration for the event is FREE but space is limited. A wait list is available so if you are a late-comer, sign up anyway!

About the presenter: 
Sandy Hoar is an experienced teacher of Celtic crafts. She has been doing handicrafts her whole life and Celtic crafts for a decade. Sandy enjoys teaching these crafts to adults and families at Celtic MAD week, and has exhibited crafts annually at George Washington University’s DC Art Exhibit. She also teaches at the annual Kids Euro Festival as a representative for the Irish Embassy.

Sandy is a nationally certified Physician Assistant in Primary Care, with specialty training in public health, pain medicine, infectious disease, and tropical medicine, teaching at the George Washington University in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Milken Institute School of Public Health.

Sandy gives her time in many ways, including giving local, regional, national, and international presentations on medicine and public health. She also provides direct care to uninsured patients at the Holy Cross Health Center. She is a former EMT and Instructor, Instructor-Trainer in all areas of first aid and CPR with the American Red Cross and she has been the Health Officer for MAD week since its inception.

It's cold out anyway, so why not enjoy winter?  Join Healthy Living @ Himmelfarb  for ice skating at Georgetown's Washington Harbour on Friday, February 19th at 7 p.m.

This ice skating rink is a short walk from GW and is right on the Georgetown waterfront.  It’s the largest outdoor rink in the DC area and is even larger than the rink at New York City’s Rockefeller Center.  As you skate, you can enjoy Georgetown's beautiful winter lights; after you skate, you might enjoy one of the many nearby restaurants.

Healthy Living @ Himmelfarb has arranged a group rate so $12 will secure both your entry and skate rental.  Please feel free to bring bring a friend or two!  Register now to reserve your space(s)!
