ClinKey4NursesHimmelfarb Library is pleased to announce the availability of a new tool: ClinicalKey for Nursing.  ClinicalKey for Nursing will replace both Mosby's Nursing Consult and Mosby's Nursing Skills; these resources are being retired by the vendor on December 31, 2015.

ClinicalKey for Nursing provides access to high-quality, full-text nursing information and its features include:

  • 'Smart search' offers shortcuts to clinical concepts and also connects you to topic pages which feature the most useful books chapters and journal articles on frequently searched topics.
  • Full-text access to nearly 70 books50+ journalsMosby's Evidence-Based Nursing monographs, and Elsevier's Clinical Skills(the same content previously available in Mosby's Nursing Consult and Mosby's Nursing Skills).
  • Access to clinical and educational tools including drug monographs, Procedures Consult, Nursing Scales, clinical updates, core measures, practice guidelines, labs, and nursing educator topic searches.

ClinicalKey for Nursing is available now for your use.  Access to Mosby's Nursing Consult and Mosby's Nursing Skills will be available through December 31, 2015.

If you have links to full-text content in either Mosby's resource in your course materials for January 2015 and beyond, please update the durable links to reflect the change to ClinicalKey for Nursing.  If you'd like assistance in updating the full-text links, please contact Laura Abate (leabate@gwu.edu).

GW Single sign onGW has recently made changes to the sign-on process used by many users to access Himmelfarb Library's online resources.  The updated sign-on now includes  uApprove, which asks users to accept terms of use and consent to have information provided to services accessed using the single sign-on application.   Users should accept the terms of use and consent in order to access Himmelfarb's databases, e-books, and e-journals.

BalancedRocksHealthy Living @ Himmelfarb is pleased to continue to offer a weekly mindfulness meditation session this semester!

Beginning on Thursday, September 3, a short pre-recorded guided meditation session will occur in Himmelfarb 305H at 12:30.  The session will last about 20 minutes and occur weekly on Thursdays throughout the fall.

Not sure if mindfulness meditation is for you?  Did you know that mindfulness practice has been shown to reduce stress, increase memory, reduce distractability and increase empathy?  What could be better for health sciences students?

Full-Text @ Himmelfarb UpgradeHimmelfarb Library has upgraded it's full-text linking!  Full-Text @ Himmelfarb links will now take you directly to the full-text articles requested.  Additional source options and services are displayed in a collapsible frame on the right side of the screen.

Popular features of the Full-Text @ Himmelfarb links remain in place including exporting a citation to RefWorks and emailing a citation.  A new link for opening the content in a new tab is also available to facilitate the creation of durable links.

In instances where Himmelfarb Library doesn't have access to the full-text online, users can check Gelman Library's online holdings via or request the item through Himmelfarb Library's Documents2Go system which allows users to request items from both local and remote storage as well as via our interlibrary loan service.

GW NetIDChanges to off-campus access to Himmelfarb Library‘s online resources have gone into effect!

Users can now login to library resources using their GW NetID and password.  The GW NetID and password combination is the same combination used to login to GW Email and Blackboard.

Faculty, staff and students who have not already done so should claim a GW NetID.
Users who have forgotten their password may reset their password.

SimbryoSimbryo: An Animated Tour of Human Development is now available via Himmelfarb Library.  Simbryo provides access to a set of animation modules of the embryology system.  Modules include Early Development, Cardiovascular, Genitourinary, Gastrointestinal, Pulmonary, Head and Neck, and Limbs.

Simbryo allows users to explore the spatial and temporal relationships in embryologic development via its visual representations. Simbryo includes a developmental clock to identify the time frame of each animated process. Users can control Simbryo's high-quality animations by pausing, slowing the speed, moving forward and backward, moving frame by frame, and zooming.  Simbryo also provides pop-up text boxes to narrate the process displayed in the animation.

unlocked lockAt the end of July 2015, a change to login procedure for off-campus access to Himmelfarb Library's online resources will go into effect.  Currently, users can login via the WRLC Library Services login using a combination of their last name and either their GWid (G#) or GWorld barcode number.

Beginning later this month, users will need to use their GW NetID and password to login via WRLC Library Services.  The GW NetID and password combination is the same combination used to login to GW Email and Blackboard.

All GW students, residents, faculty and staff are eligible for a GW NetID.  If you haven't done so already, please claim your GW NetID.

The Red Book Online is a digital resource that is part of Himmelfarb Library's online collection.   The Red Book Online provides full-text access to the current (2015) edition of the American Academy of Pediatric's Red Book as well as related resources.

The Immunization section of the Red Book Online provides access to:

  • Immunization schedules
  • Vaccine status tables: Status of Recently Submitted, Licensed, and Recommended Vaccines & Biologics
  • Vaccine implementation guidance
  • Influenza resources

The Multimedia Library for the Red Book Online provides access to:

  • 2,700+ infectious disease images for use in diagnosis and presentations, including clinical manifestations, disease vectors, and etiology
  • Videos and webinars produced by the AAP
  • PowerPoint presentation slides based on Committee on Infectious Diseases (COID) policy statements as well as other key infectious disease content from AAP.

The Red Book Online is available to users from both on- and off-campus locations.  In addition, users who access the Red Book Online via their mobile device can take advantage of its mobile-optimized interface.

BoardVitalsHimmelfarb Library recently acquired access to a new resource to support study for the Internal Medicine Shelf exam.  BoardVitals is a question bank which provides access to 500 Internal Medicine Shelf Board review questions targeted for use during clerkship rotations.

Questions in BoardVitals are selected from the Cleveland Clinic Internal Medicine Review Series with additional questions are written by internal medicine faculty.  Features include timed exam conditions, individualized study recommendations, and exam study tips.

To use BoardVitals, access BoardVitals and then create personal account.  BoardVitals is accessible from on- and off-campus locations.
