Skating at Washington HarborHealthy Living @ Himmelfarb’s ice skating event has been rescheduled for Friday, January 30 at 5:00 p.m.!

It’s cold out and dark early – but don’t hibernate!  Instead, come join Himmelfarb Library‘s Healthy Living @ Himmelfarb initiative for ice skating at Washington Harbour.  This ice skating rink is right on the Georgetown waterfront and a short walk from Himmelfarb Library.  It’s the largest outdoor rink in the DC area and is even larger than the rink at New York City’s Rockefeller Center.  As you skate, you can enjoy Potomac views during the daytime and the winter lights after dark.

On Friday, January 30 at 5 p.m. we’ll set out on foot from Himmelfarb Library to ice skate; you can also meet us at the rink. Healthy Living @ Himmelfarb has arranged a group rate so $12 will secure both your entry and skate rental.  Register now to reserve your space!

  • When: Friday, January 30 5:00 p.m.
  • Where: Himmelfarb Library’s 1st floor to walk over together
  • Cost: $12 includes entry fee and skate rental
  • RSVPRegister now to reserve your space!

If you have questions, please contact Laura Abate (leabate@gwu.edu).

Skating at Washington HarborDue to the terrible weather that's forecast to start right as we would start ice skating, we've decided to postpone this event.  We are working on arranging another date (hoping for next Friday 1/30 at the same time) and announce the new date as soon as it's confirmed.

Thank you to those who signed up.  We hope that the rescheduled date and time also woks well!

MeditationHealthy Living @ Himmelfarb will continue to offer a weekly mindfulness meditation session through the spring.  Each session will be hosted by Himmelfarb Library's Catherine Sluder using a mindfulness app and will begin at 12:30 in Himmelfarb 305H; sessions will last for 15-20 minutes.  This event is offered for free and no registration is required.  If you miss the first session or arrive late, just come the following week!   Mindfulness practice has been shown to reduce stress, increase memory, reduce distractability and increase empathy?  What could be better for health sciences students?

What: Mindfulness Meditation

When: Thursdays, 12:30-12:50 p.m.

Where: Himmelfarb 305H
