| Sonila Turshilla Vathi was a visiting scholar from Albania during the 2004-2005 academic year at The George Washington University. Her time in the USA was sponsored by the Junior Faculty Development Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Her mentor at GWU was Prof. Hugh Agnew.
Sonila Turshilla Vathi graduated from the University of Tirana, Department of Social Workwith a specialty. After graduating she taught Russian as a second language for foreign students in several universities in Kharkiv. Ms. Vathi developed courses in 1. Democratic Institutions (types of democratic states, political science, and three new institutionalisms); 2. The Recent Political Situation in the Balkans (Macedonian-Albanian conflict, the Kosovo crisis, effects of international opinion and power); and 3. Exploring Corruption in Politics (political and historical view of corruption, corruption in transition countries, corruption and the government, and why corruption is our favorite sin). She currently teaches the Study of Social Problems and Psychology of Communications. Ms. Vathi had worked with the United Nations on several projects, including the television program “Weapons Exchange for Development: The Role of Women in Disarming the Entire Population.” |
