Free Financial Literacy Seminars for Graduating Seniors

The Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center (GFLEC) and GW Professor Annamaria Lusardi are offering a free 5 week series for graduating seniors. The seminars will cover a variety of topics from taking advantage of compound interest, the relationship between return and risk in investing, and maximizing FICO scores. These seminars are a great opportunity for graduating seniors getting ready to navigate the important financial decisions of their early careers. The seminars will be fun and informative and no previous experience or knowledge is required!

Each of the first four sessions will be offered twice on Fridays and Saturdays in person starting April 8th and running through April 23. The final seminar will be online on April 29. In addition to information on personal finance, lunch will be provided at the in person sessions.

Moot Court Team Tryouts

Are you a GW student interested in law? Politics? Current events? Then we would encourage you to try-out for the GW Undergraduate Moot Court Team!
The Moot Court team is an organization that encourages collaboration and community, all while embracing a competitive nature that harnesses the talent of our team members. At competition, students are given the opportunity to explore some of the most relevant questions in constitutional law while being judged by real professors and lawyers! As a fairly new team, they have undergone some recent restructuring, but they are more ready than ever to tackle the next season of competition.
If you are interested in learning more about Moot Court, you’re invited to join them at the following information sessions:
March 27th from 1pm-3pm at District B117,
March 31st from 2pm-4pm at District B117, 
April 1st from 1pm-3pm at District B206.

Honors in-person Research Showcase!

Save the date UHPers! On Friday April 22nd at 1PM – 3PM ET, we will be hosting our annual UHP Research Showcase in COR 101A to learn all about the amazing work UHP students have been doing this year. The showcase will consist of an hour of oral presentations followed by a reception and posters session. All students, faculty and staff are welcome! We particularly encourage attendance by any students who are beginning to plan their own theses!

If you have engaged in any research this year – including work associated with a research assistantship or your Honors Senior Thesis – please sign up here to present your work as either an oral presentation or poster (submission deadline: April 8th). There will be a few small gift card prizes awarded for the best presentations, including a “Director’s prize” and an “audience favorite”!

Tulane Journal Research Submission

Do you want to have your own original research published?  The Tulane Journal of Policy and Political Economy is accepting article submissions for their next edition!

The Tulane Journal is an internationally-recognized undergraduate publication focusing on original student research in politics, economics, and public health. Submitted articles are reviewed by a 50-person faculty-review panel, and those that are accepted are published in print and online. Previous editions have received submissions from universities across four continents and are indexed in the Library of Congress.

They are officially partnered with the Tulane Departments of Political Science and Economics, the Tulane Murphy Institute, the Tulane School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine, and the Politics, Philosophy, and Economics (PPE) Societies of the University of Oxford and the London School of Economics.

Sustainability Research Fellow Program

The GW Sustainability Institute is now accepting applications for a new Undergrad Sustainability Research Fellow program!  

The Undergraduate Sustainability Fellows are a cohort of undergraduate students from diverse academic disciplines who will engage in a year-long learning, research, and action program that addresses a sustainability issue on campus by focusing on campus life and the student experience. The team of instructors for the program will work with the Office of Sustainability to identify relevant campus sustainability issues from which the Fellows will select topics to work on for the year. The Fellows will work in teams and will have the support of faculty and staff to design and implement solutions. The GW Sustainability Institute will provide financing to support student research efforts and carry out the solutions as needed.

 The application deadline is March 11th.

Leadership for Liberation!

GW Student Life has a new addition to the Leadership Exploration Certificate program: the Leadership for Liberation track!  The Leadership for Liberation framework focuses on identifying and dismantling the systems, structures, and cultural norms that are the heart of our most challenging societal problems.

The Leadership for Liberation track is a two-month program that will do a deep dive into the framework of the same name. Participants will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 6 to 7:30 PM starting on February 1 and should expect to:

  • Engage in a deep dive into the Leadership for Liberation framework through applied activities and discussions;
  • Establish and build a community of peers that are dedicated to serving as socially just and equitable leaders;
  • Increase their knowledge in leadership development and social justice concepts; and
  • Reflect on their personal leadership journeys while setting goals for their socially responsible leadership in the future

The application for the program is open now and closes on Sunday, January 30 at 11:59 EST. Space in the program is limited!

Phi Sigma Pi (PSP) is a national gender-inclusive honors fraternity. Our community is built on the values of scholarship, leadership, and fellowship.
