During the 2001-2002 academic year, Andriy Ilyuk was a visiting research professor at The George Washington University, affiliated with the Research Program in Social and Organizational Learning. His stay in the USA was supported by the Junior Faculty Development Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.Andriy’s primary area of interest is Comparative Constitutional Law, with an emphasis on First Amendment rights and techniques of constitutional interpretation. Pursuing his interest, Andriy Ilyuk worked in close cooperation with Professor Gregory Maggs and other faculty members at The George Washington University Law School. He attended U.S. Supreme Court oral arguments, since he believes that direct observation of the proceedings can be very helpful in trying to decipher the Court’s later reasoning. The Court’s neighbor, the Library of Congress, was Andriy’s other favorite destination and one of the primary reasons for staying in Washington.

Besides his legal research, Andriy enjoyed hiking, cycling, and discovering fascinating history behind the seemingly ordinary buildings, streets, and parks of Washington and its surroundings.
