During the 1996-1997 academic year, Leonid Karp was a visiting research professor at The George Washington University, affiliated with the Research Program in Social and Organizational Learning. His stay in the USA was supported by the Regional Scholars Exchange Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. His mentor at GW was Professor Charles Jacobina.Dr. Karp is a assistant professor in the Department of Social Medicine and Public Health at the Akmola State Medical Institute in Kazakhstan.
He has been a general practitioner since 1971, after receiving his degree from the Akmola Medical Institute. Between 1980 and 1984 he worked in the public health field at the All-Union Research Institute of Social Hygiene and Organization of Public Health, in Moscow. In 1986 he received his doctorate. He has traveled on several occasions to Germany, Finland and Switzerland, and he often participates in Scientific Conferences.
