Olena Yemets
During the 2002-2003 academic year Olena Yemets was a visiting research professor at The George Washington University, affiliated with the Research Program in Social and Organizational Learning. Her stay in the USA was supported by the Junior Faculty Development Program, which was funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Olena Yemets is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Agrochemistry and Soil Science at the Bila Tserkva State Agrarian University, Bila Tserkva, Ukraine. She teaches courses in Agrochemistry and Soil Science with Fundamentals of Geology (M.A. level). She recently prepared a new course in bioethics with fundamentals of ecological pedagogics and a history of land use (B.A. level). She also supervises graduate student projects.

In 1987 Olena Yemets graduated from the Ukrainian Agrarian Academy, with a Diploma in Agrochemistry and Soil Science (M.A./B.A.) Kyiv, Ukraine. Then for two years she was an Affiliated Expert in the Forage Department of the Central Institute of Scientific-Agrochemical Service in Kyiv. In 1989-1992, she was a doctoral student in the Institute of Agriculture of the Ukrainian Agrarian Academy of Sciences in Kyiv.

During 1992-1995 she worked as a Department Research Fellow in the Feeding Department of the Institute of Poultry breeding, Kharkiv region.

In 1995 Olena received a Ph.D. in Agronomy Sciences (major – Genetics). The topic of her dissertation was, “The Search for Mechanisms for Saving Fruit Elements in Soybeans (Glycine max.L.) Using Genetic and Selection Methods.”

From December 1995 until the present time she has been an Assistant Professor in the Agrochemistry and Soil Science Department of the Bila Tserkva State Agrarian University.

She is Co-Chair of the Trade Union Group of the Agronomic Faculty at the University. Since 2002 Olena Yemets has been a Member of the Ukrainian Bioethics Association.

Her research interests include: biology and genetics of soybeans; organic farming; and ecological and environmental education strategies. She has actively taken part in the State budget themes: agricultural ecological system development, improving quality of yields, soil fertility renewal and crop rotation for preserving ecological balance, 1995-2000.

Publications:

She has published some methodological materials for students: “A Collection of Tests in Genetics and Soil Ecology,” Bila Tserkva, 1997, 25 pages; “Methodical Directions in Agrochemical Studies and Geology with Fundamentals of Mineralogy,” Bila Tserkva, 2002, 30 pages.

Olena Yemets has published 17 scientific articles devoted to Agronomy studies. Some recent works are:
