During the 2000-2001 academic year, Volodymyr Kochura was a visiting research professor at The George Washington University, affiliated with the Research Program in Social and Organizational Learning. His stay in the USA was supported by the Junior Faculty Development Program, which is funded by the U.S.Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the American Council of Teachers of Russian. His mentor at GW was Professor Rumana Riffat.

Volodymyr Kochura is an Associate Professor in the Department of Ore-thermal Processes and Low-waste Technologies at Donetsk State Technical University in Ukraine. He teaches the following courses “Principles of scientific research”, “Ironmaking”, “Fundamentals of ecology”, “Ecology in Metallurgy”, “Theory and technology for protection of air and water”, and “Environmental protection”. His scientific interests include: Ironmaking, energy saving technologies for primary metal production, combustion of solid fuel in metallurgical and power aggregates, theoretical bases and techniques for protecting air and water, and the ecological safety of metallurgical production.

Dr. Kochura received a Candidate of Science degree from the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute in Ukraine in 1992 and a metallurgical engineer diploma from the Donetsk Polytechnic Institute in Ukraine in 1986. In 2000 he attended a summer institute at the American Language Center in Chisinau in Moldova and received a certificate.

Dr. Kochura has recieved the following awards and grants: The Junior Faculty Development Program Fellowship at The George Washington University, USA (2000-2001), a postdoctoral fellowship for a foreign researcher in the Institute for Advanced Materials Processing at Tohoku University in Japan (October 1997- September 1998), and grants from the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for young scientists (1995-1999).

Dr. Kochura is member of The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan (ISIJ) and The Iron & Steel Society (ISS, USA)

He has written more than 30 papers. His publications are available upon request.

He is married and has one son.
