During the 2001-2002 academic year, Olga Feditcheva was a visiting research professor at The George Washington University, affiliated with the Research Program in Social and Organizational Learning. Her stay in the USA was supported by the Junior Faculty Development Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Olga V. Fedicheva earned her M.A. (1985, Linguistics) and Ph.D. (1995, Linguistics) at the Department of Phonetics, Moscow Linguistic University, Moscow, Russia. She is an Associate Professor in the English Language Department at the Institute of Foreign Languages, St. Petersburg State University of Economics and Finance.
Ms. Fedicheva has worked in Russian higher education since 1985, teaching EFL, Business English, and English pronunciation. She has delivered lectures on Phonetics and Phonology, conducted research, drafted projects, designed curricula for EFL projects, and introduced new technologies into the educational process. Her research interests include:
- American pronunciation with a focus on regional and dialectal differences;
- dialectal studies and language changes;
- cross-cultural communication;
- methodologies in teaching Interpretation and Translation;
- new technologies in teaching English pronunciation, EFL, and Business English;
- curriculum design and continuing education.
She has presented and published on American English speech rhythm, the interaction of music and speech rhythms, and the variability of English intonation. Her publications cover the use of music in teaching pronunciation, the development of phonemic perception on the basis of teaching American English varieties, as well as major principles for creating EFL textbooks for the students of business departments. Ms. Fedicheva’s teaching experience has resulted in the creation of a textbook on Business English and a teacher’s guide for the development of an advanced level Business English program. She is currently involved in the creation of an audio course based on American dialects and a curriculum design on Interpretation and Translation for Economics majors.
