During the 1996 Spring Semester, Alphiya Annaniyazova was a visiting research professor at The George Washington University, affiliated with the Research Program in Social and Organizational Learning. Her stay in the USA was supported by the Research Fellowships in Contemporary Issues Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.Her primary area of interest is methods of evaluating enterprises for future investments. She received her first diploma in philology from the Turkmen State University in 1978. In 1994 she received a Business English diploma from the International Education Center.

Until 1986 she worked for the Turkmen Academy of Sciences as a research assistant. She went on to work as a senior researcher for Gosplan and later became an assistant for the TACIS project.
