Philip Wirtz is Professor of Decision Sciences and Psychology. His BA is from GW, his master’s degree (computer science) from Purdue University and his PhD in applied social psychology from GW. He has received numerous awards for teaching and service, including the George Washington Award for service and the Peter B. Vaill Award for Teaching. Phil is an expert in treatment matching for alcohol treatment and advanced multivariate techniques. He taught the department’s core PhD courses in statistics for several decades. Current research interests include human-made and natural disasters, the perceived threat of disasters, emergency preparedness self-efficacy, emergency preparedness, and anxiety.
