Ashley Reed

Ashley Reed is a sixth-year graduate student in the clinical psychology program at GWU. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, but moved south to attend the University of Georgia for undergrad. She graduated in 2019 with a double major in Psychology and Sociology and a double minor in Anthropology and Disaster Management. While at UGA, she worked in a disaster lab, investigating public perceptions of pet owners who left their pets behind during evacuation from slow- and rapid-onset natural disasters. She was also involved in research related to the 2015 Nepal earthquakes, looking at the impact of social and religious support on mental health outcomes after the disaster and analyzing the long-term effects of child-friendly spaces on mental health and development among affected children. While at GWU in 2019, Ashley received an APAGS/Psi Chi Junior Scientist Fellowship, enabling her to create a follow-up study on individuals with disabilities and disasters. Her dissertation focuses on emergency preparedness messages varying threat, self-efficacy, and community efficacy. She is completing a community internship at DC’s HSEMA. Ashley also enjoys nature photography, hiking, bowling, and playing with three beautiful cats.
