Project Pericles is accepting applications for their Civic and Voter Engagement Fellowship. Fellows will receive a $1,000 grant to use Periclean Civic Engagement Resources in the humanities for Spring- Fall 2024. These modules help educate students about voter suppression and bridge the gap between academic content and the real world. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis. There is always more evidence that community engaged scholarship is valuable. This study from the Pew Charitable Trusts reports that higher education is increasingly rewarding faculty for this work as well.

Universities Take Promising Steps to Reward Research that Benefits Society

The paper provides cases from 13 universities and 10 higher education organizations that offer faculty incentives and benefits (mainly through tenure and promotion policies) for scholarship that has public benefit.

Congratulations to Jameta Barlow (CCAS, University Writing program) on the announcement of her new edited book, Writing Blackgirls' and women's health: Implications for research and praxis. 
The book also features a chapter authored by Nashman Affiliate Faculty,  Maranda Ward (SMHS).

After years of curriculum development and writing time, we are excited to announce the release of: Preparing Students to Engage in Equitable Community Partnerships: A Handbook, (by Elizabeth A. Tryon, Haley C. Madden, and Cory Sprinkel; Temple University Press). From their press release: “[…the book] provides a wealth of valuable resources and activities to help impart ideas of identity, privilege, oppression, bias, and power dynamics to support students and community in these relationships. Believing that authenticity only comes about in an atmosphere of mutual respect and self-awareness, the authors argue for cultural and intellectual humility.”
