GW Law Students Learn About Career Opportunities in Internal Investigations & Compliance

Justin Chiarodo, chair of Blank Rome’s Government Contracts practice group, speaks to a group of students

On October 3, 2023, Blank Rome and the GW Law Government Procurement Law Program co-hosted an event for GW Law students interested in learning about career opportunities in internal investigations and compliance. Blank Rome generously hosted the event at its office in Washington, DC, and students had the opportunity to engage with the firm’s attorneys, the panelists, and their peers.

The panel was moderated by Justin Chiarodo, chair of Blank Rome’s Government Contracts practice group, and the esteemed panelists included Jennifer Short, a partner in the firm’s White Collar Investigations and Defense practice group; Allison Barlotta, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer for Booz Allen; and Laura Semple, Assistant General Counsel for Amentum.

The panel featured a diverse range of both in-house and outside counsel perspectives on internal investigations and compliance, and the skills and experiences that can help attorneys become effective advisors in this important area of the law. Allison Barlotta and Laura Semple shared their experiences with internal investigations and compliance work from an in-house perspective, while Justin Chiarodo and Jennifer Short discussed their role as outside counsel, helping clients manage compliance challenges. The panelists also addressed emerging issues in the field, introducing students to the substantive aspects of this dynamic practice area.

In addition to the panel discussion, attendees enjoyed a lively networking reception complete with food and refreshments kindly provided by the Blank Rome team. Thanks to the support of the GW Law Government Contracts Student Association and Anti-Corruption & Compliance Association, the event was nearly at capacity, attended by a large group of enthusiastic law students interested in learning more about the law firm and this practice area.
