Introduction to the Program:

The purpose of the “Ph.D. Dissertation Competition Program” at the 2024 International Conference on Smart Grid Synchronized Measurements & Analytics (SGSMA) is to provide an international platform for Ph.D. researchers in the fields related to synchrophasors and synchronized measurement analytics to present their dissertation research for a chance to win one of the three Grand Prizes of $1,000. These awards recognize not just quality research, but also an opportunity to share technology innovations and exchange ideas with the electric industry. The Ph.D. Dissertation Competition Program provides a travel grant to the 3 awarded researchers that include “free registration” and a “4-night accommodation” at the conference hotel. The awarded researchers will present their dissertation research through a poster in-person at the conference.

Eligibility:

  • The candidate’s dissertation defended between May 1, 2022 and Dec 1, 2023 as indicated by the dissertation cover page will be considered.
  • The application should be submitted by the Ph.D. researcher and endorsed by the dissertation advisor.
  • Candidate must be able to attend the SGSMA2024 in person.
  • Candidate must agree to present the dissertation research through a poster at the conference, if selected for an award.

Required Application Documents:

  • Nomination letter from dissertation advisor highlighting the major contributions of the dissertation and its relevance to SGSMA
  • A 3-page Summary of the Dissertation: Abstract (2 pages) and list of contributions and publications (1 page)
  • A Copy of the Dissertation (if available)

How to Apply:

  • Submit an application through the application portal below.
  • The application includes an endorsement letter for the faculty advisor.
  • The applicant acknowledges financing his/her travel to the conference. A travel grant will be provided to the winners that include a registration waiver and a 4-night accommodation at the conference hotel.
  • If selected, register for the conference using a promotional code that waives the registration fees.

Selections are made by the SGSMA2024 organizing committee; all decisions are final. A letter for the purpose of Visa application acknowledging the award will be issued as requested.
