How to fly to Washington, DC, USA
Air travel to Washington DC is possible through one of the following three major airports:
- Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is located approximately five miles from the GW Foggy Bottom campus (SGSMA 2024 venue), roughly a 10-minute drive.
- Dulles International Airport (IAD) is located approximately 24 miles from the GW Foggy Bottom campus (SGSMA 2024 venue), roughly a 30-minute drive.
- Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) is located approximately 35 miles from the GW Foggy Bottom campus, roughly a 50-minute drive.
How to get to the George Washington University
From Ronald Reagon Airport (DCA)
The Washington DC Metrorail system has an elevated Metrorail station connected to the Reagan National Airport. The Metrorail system provides quick and affordable access to GWU Foggy Bottom campus (5 metro stops on the Blue Line). The trip takes about 15 minutes. You can plan your trip on the metro here.
From Dulles International Airport (IAD)
The Silver Line Express Bus provides a convenient, economical connection between Washington Dulles International Airport and the Wiehle-Reston East Metrorail Station on the Silver Line. The Silver Line provides a direct connection to GWU Foggy Bottom Metro station. The total trip takes about 45 minutes. You can plan your trip on the metro here.

From Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI)
BWI Marshall Airport offers different transportation options ranging from public transportation to app-based ride services. BWI Marshall Airport offers free, frequent, shuttle service between the MARC/Amtrak train station and the Airport Terminal. The train will bring you to Union Station in Washington DC, giving access to the Metrorail system. The total trip takes about 1 hour.
