University Research Ecosystem

The George Washington University has introduced a Pod model for sponsored research administration. The result is a decentralized unit granted a high degree of autonomy to deliver world-class research support that can scale with the mission. The reorganization has formed three Pods that service all the main research producing schools and centers.

Office of Sponsored Projects

Each Pod has several co-located representatives from the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP) who fulfill specific roles (pre-award, post-award, and contracting). As a decentralized model, OSP retains final signatory authority, but many functions that previously resided in the central office have been moved into the Pod.
