The Changemakers Retreat is an in-person leadership development experience intended to hone skills, build community, and empower current and aspiring boundary-spanners and changemakers. This will be a four-day retreat from June 24-27, 2024 at Towson University. Click here to learn more.

The Civic Engagement & Voting Rights Teacher Scholars program provides a space for teachers to create curriculums that for the American democracy. Teachers will be working with professionals from different areas of study from all around the nation to create course materials. This is a compensated opportunity. Apply by February 15th, 2024. Join the Transform Mid-Atlantic Region on April 6th, 2023 for the Spring 2024 TMA Regional Civic Engagement Summit. Come together with peers and colleagues from the region to build leadership, media, and civic engagement skills. There will be workshops for students faculty and administrators led by national organizations dedicated to advancing responsible civic leadership, meaningful dialogue, and sustainable campus democratic engagement plans. There will also be an opportunity for student leaders from throughout the region to engage in a poster session related to the conference’s theme. The partners for this summit are ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge,  Towson University, New Politics Leadership Academy, Urban Rural Action, AASCU American Democracy Project, and other regional leaders. Metropolitan Universities  Journal is accepting submissions for an issue on Exploring the Role of Higher Education in Prison and Returning Citizens on Campuses and Communities. This issue will have guest editors Darren Wheelock and Theresa Tobin from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Manuscripts must be submitted by May 1st, 2024. The Engagement Scholarship Consortium will be hosting their 2024 conference themed “Pathways to Prosperity: Building Sustainable Futures through Community Engagement”. The conference will be held in Oregon on October 9-10, 2024 with a pre conference on October 7-8, 2024. The conference will explore the impacts of work done by the community and strategies for the advancement of community engagement. Proposals are due by April 1, 2024. Click here to learn more.

The Community-Based Global Learning Summit will be held on Nov 8 - 10, 2024 at Worcester Polytechnic Institute Worcester, MA. Each CBGL Summit is geared to stimulating conversations about improving community engagement. This conversation is held with students, faculty, and community partners. The theme of the summit is Collaboration for a Better World: Global Learning, Hope, and Justice. The Center for Teaching Excellence at Frostburg State University is hosting the 13th Annual Regional Conference on Teaching, Learning, & Scholarship to be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Frostburg State University. Join Campus Compact in partnership with University of Nebraska at Omaha as a part of the 2024-2025 Engaged Scholars Initiative cohort. This year long programming is geared to early career scholars who are interested in developing leadership skills in civic and community engagement. GW’s Dr. Maranda Ward was part of this program in 2023 and we encourage GW faculty to participate.

The American Association of Colleges and Universities has published new research on using open educational Resources as a strategy for improving diversity, equity, and inclusion. "Leveraging Open Educational Resources to Advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Guide for Campus Change Agents is designed to support the integration of OER and DEI efforts within higher education institutions". The International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement is hosting their 2023 conference themed Redefining Research, Access, & Inclusion in SLCE. Join SLCE in furthering accessibility to service-learning and community engagement.
