The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) invites proposals for their Annual Conference: The Essential Role of Urban and Metropolitan Universities.  The event will be held from October 23-26 in San Diego, California. 

The Conference “invites presenters to reflect broadly on how the urban mission can be fully integrated into operations, structure, partnerships, and academic objectives within the following major themes.

  • Cultivating resilient campuses in the midst of crisis
  • Inclusive growth and housing 
  • Industry engagement and entrepreneurship
  • K-16 student success and support 
  • Place-based hyperlocal community engagement 
  • Racial equity and social mobility 
  • Regional collaborations and partnerships
  • Workforce and talent development

The Morris K. and Stewart L. Udall Scholarship awards college sophomores and juniors for leadership and public service related to Native American nations or to the environment. Because environmental issues can be approached in a multidisciplinary way, the scholarship is offered to students from a broad range of disciplines. The 2022-2024 FAO Schwarz Fellowships are two-year, paid positions that develop the leadership skills of recent college graduates interested in pursuing careers related to social change. The Boren Scholarships for Study Abroad provides up to $25,000 to support students planning long-term study abroad in order to study a less commonly taught language and who are interested in issues of vital interest to the US. Boren scholars are expected to provide one year of service in the federal government, but the program especially favors those applicants who are planning to devote more time to government service.

On April 14-15, Harvard College is hosting the 7th annual Scholarship and Social Justice Research Conference. Proposals are welcomed from any interested students, faculty or staff pursuing research on community engagement work and social justice issues. 

“For student scholars, this is an opportunity to engage in academic dialogue with peers and faculty mentors. For faculty, this conference presents an opportunity to explore how other disciplines conduct research that creates new knowledge and understanding about equity and social justice and to be inspired by the next generation of scholars.”

Any current college student is welcome to submit a proposal to present and student proposals are due by February 10, 2021.  There will be office hours this week for anyone with questions!
