Community Engaged Faculty, Professor Karina Lora

Karina R. Lora, Ph.D., R.D., and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at GWU, is a community and public health nutritionist who works primarily with underserved multicultural populations. As a researcher, Dr. Lora focuses on childhood obesity prevention in minority populations where she aims to understand the multi-layered factors that influence dietary patterns of family members. In her most recent publication, “Determinants of Parenting Practices Related to Monitoring Sugar Sweetened Beverages Among Hispanic Mothers,” Dr. Lora studied the public health interventions that promote maternal monitoring practices.

Dr. Lora utilizes her research as an Assistant Professor, as she provides students with approaches that enhance their learning outcomes, cultural competence skills, and awareness of social issues while serving communities by evaluating community/public health programs to improve their delivery and impact.
