“DC Oral History Collaborative Announces New Online Workshops”

"The DC Oral History Collaborative (DCOHC) a partnership of the DC Public Library and HumanitiesDC, announces two series of free, virtual public workshops aimed at providing participants with the skills and techniques needed to conduct oral history interviews. These skills are more relevant than ever as we collectively seek to document and preserve the voices and stories of those on the front lines of both the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent protests for an end to systemic racism" (DC History Center, "DC Oral History Collaborative").

"Participants will learn how to invite someone to be interviewed, prepare for the interview, select and use interview equipment, optimize audio quality, and create post-interview documentation. The upcoming workshops will include valuable advice on conducting interviews remotely. Along with these more practical aspects of oral history, participants will learn the theory behind building rapport with narrators, asking the right questions, and the differences between oral history and other types of interviewing" (DC History Center, "DC Oral History Collaborative").

"The workshops will be led by oral historian, Dr. Anna Kaplan who has conducted similar workshops for the DCOHC since its creation in 2017. Kaplan is an experienced oral historian, and much of the workshops’ content is derived from her own work in the field" (DC History Center, "DC Oral History Collaborative").

As mentioned in the above links, "each workshop consists of multiple sessions [and] participants must attend all sessions of their selected workshop."
