Our congratulations to Jessica McCaughey from GW's University Writing program, who has been selected to present at the International Association for Research in Service-Learning and Community Engagement annual conference in October (program here). https://event.fourwaves.com/iarslce/pages.
McCaughey will describe the design and outcomes of her UW 1020 course, described in depth here, which engages students in writing projects in partnership with Clinic+O, a healthcare organization in Guinea. "Writing transfer" is the complex process by which an individual learns to rhetorically examine new writing situations and draw on past experiences in an effort to successfully navigate and adapt as a writer. McCaughey will discuss, "the extraordinary capacity for community-engaged courses to support professional writing transfer for students."
