Campus Compact has received funding from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations for a new project called "Scaling Discourse in Higher Education." This two-year initiative aims to help colleges and universities access effective tools and practices for bridge-building, dialogue, and discourse to enhance students' abilities to engage across differences and participate in democracy.
GW faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to contribute their insights through a brief survey by July 3, 2024. Participants will be entered into a drawing for half-price registration to Compact25, Campus Compact's 2025 national conference. Use this link to access the survey
The project will culminate in the launch of an interactive virtual platform offering free resources to help campuses assess their needs, build knowledge of bridge-building activities, and find pathways to action. Campus Compact will also release an initial campus resource guide this summer to address immediate priorities related to polarization, including the 2024 US Elections and the ongoing Israel-Palestine crisis.
Five civil discourse and bridge-building experts will develop the guide:
- Dr. Sara Drury, Wabash College (team lead)
- Dr. Nicholas V. Longo, Providence College
- Dr. Lisa-Marie Napoli, Indiana University
- Dr. Allison Briscoe-Smith, Greater Good Science Center
- Dr. Rachel Rains Winslow, George Fox University
"From the classroom to student centers and beyond, campuses are responding to the growing polarization in our society by deepening their commitment to advancing discourse and dialogue," said Matt Farley, chief strategy & operations officer at Campus Compact.
