Graduating? Let us know!

Look, Catherine and Liz aren’t psychic, yet. So they need you to tell them if you’re graduating this spring.
It’s easy to do: just fill out this super quick form. You have until 5pm on February 1st to fill it out.
What do we do with the info?  We use it to make sure you get important graduation related information — like how to get your tickets to the special Honors reception and how to pick up your gold cords, among other things.

Baby William's Book Tasting: Curious Baby

As a member of the UHP’s intellectual community, junior program officer William Chandler offers book recommendations beyond your syllabi.
photo (3)I may be a baby, but I aspire to great things: rolling over, flying like Superman, and using complete sentences.  And so I must take issue with the very sincere but ultimately unfulfilling “Curious Baby My First Words at the Farm, based on the classic character by Margaret and H.A. Rey.  (HOLY COW DID YOU KNOW THUMBS COULD DO THIS???)  Continue reading “Baby William's Book Tasting: Curious Baby”

New Year's Resolution: Get $500 [Spring 2013 SURE Award]

Use your winter break down time productively.  Did you come up with intriguing questions that just need to be researched over break?  Questions like:

  • What really is the most economically efficient form of gift giving?
  • Could we genetically alter trees to glow, so we wouldn’t need to buy lights?
  • What cultural and social paradigms converge at holiday dinner to create such terrible, awkward, uncomfortable conversation?

Well, maybe you have better research ideas than that.  Either way, you’ve got just the rest of this month to complete and submit your SURE Award application!
That’s right, if you’ve got an excellent research proposal, we’ve got $500 to help you do it.
The possibilities are endless, but the deadline to apply for the spring 2013 semester is January 25, 2013 February 1st, 2013.

Keep reading for more info, or read about the award here.

Online Course Evaluations = Save the Planet

If you don’t complete your online course evaluations for your Honors courses, we’ll have to switch back to paper evals.  Paper comes from trees.  Don’t make us waste all that paper and kill the planet, please.  We never get to have nice things and we really want to have a nice planet, just this once.

You have until Wednesday, December 12th to complete your online course evaluations.  You can do them here: http://my.gwu.edu/mod/evaluations
If you loved your class, or hated it, or don’t have strong feelings either way, we need to know!  Your anonymous response helps us make sure the UHP is on track and it’s an important part of professor evaluation for faculty contract renewals.
THE FATES OF THE PLANET, THE UHP, AND OUR FACULTY ARE IN YOUR HANDS.  NO PRESSURE, GUYS. NO PRESSURE.
For real, it takes five to fifteen minutes: http://my.gwu.edu/mod/evaluations

National Christmas Tree w/ Prof. Mark Ralkowski

UHPers living in West Hall, join Prof. Mark Ralkowski for a small dinner and a trip to the national Christmas tree (and oversized menorah, and little train village) this Friday!
The plan is to meet at the UHP townhouse at 5:30, eat a meal that Prof. Ralkowski will provide, and then walk to the tree.
Just email Prof. Ralkowski at mralkow@gwu.edu no later than Friday morning so that there’ll be sure to be enough food for you.
In anticipation, you might want to watch this video on repeat.  Seeing a tree is pretty exciting.  (Watch out for one and a half swear words.)
