Trivia Night in Post Hall

When I heard the UHP was bringing a keg

I was like:

But then I realized it was a root beer keg and I was like:

Trivia is TONIGHT from 8-10pm in Post Hall.  Bring a team of six, or come alone and make a team there!

Wednesday Night Walk-ins!

Rob Lowe might literally be there.

Liz is doing Aaron Sorkin-style advising every Wednesday night. Meet with her from 5-7 pm in the Townhouse on Foggy Bottom, walk, talk, and get your questions answered before the elevator doors close.
No appointment necessary, just show up with your questions in hand, and meet with fictional President of the United States Josiah Bartlett-I mean, Liz.
If you need an appointment during regular daytime hours, make sure to make an appointment.

Seniors: Verify Special Honors [Deadlines]

Seniors: it may be time to hand in your special honors verification form!
If you’re not sure if you need to, here’s how to find out:

  1. Are you a senior?
  2. Are you graduating in December?
  3. Are you pursuing Special Honors in your degree in lieu of taking HONR 4198?

If you answered yes to all of the above questions, congrats! You need to submit a  Special Honors Verification Form (PDF) to the UHP by 5pm on Friday, October 12th.
The form requires a signature from your school’s advisor (not Catherine or Liz), so it’s better to do this sooner rather than later.

Education Internship Position!

Interested in education? Want to help people learn? Think reading is a valuable skill for future generations to have? For UHPer’s interested in education or service, this internship puts undergrads in the classroom with at-risk third graders. Starting in October, A Wider Circle will work with public schools in Southeast D.C., helping students to reach proficiency in reading through tutoring.
Third grade is a critical year, marking the transition of a student from learning to read to reading to learn. Too often, students who test below proficiency level in reading at the end of third grade fall further and further behind in subsequent grades; this increases the likelihood for behavioral problems and school dropout. An internship in this new and ambitious program is a hands-on, meaningful, and challenging opportunity for those interested in helping underserved students to grow and succeed.
For more information, please contact Dr. Anne Thompson at intern@awidercircle.org.

Alex Yudelson at the DNC

Two UHP students went to the DNC as delegates earlier this month.  Alex Yudelson checked in with us to tell us about his amazing opportunity.

Alex Yudelson at the DNC

In February I got a phone call informing me that I was chosen as a delegate for Barack Obama to the Democratic National Convention, representing the 29th Congressional District in Upstate NY.
Fast forward seven months and I found myself casting my ballot to nominate President Obama for another term as president of the United States.  Continue reading “Alex Yudelson at the DNC”
