Fall 2024 & Spring 2025 Openings and Opportunities

Frederick Douglas-Daniel O’Connell Global Internship

About the Program

The Frederick Douglass-Daniel O’Connell Global Internship was founded in 2017 as the Frederick Douglass Global Fellowship by the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE), the nation’s oldest and largest student exchange organization. Since then, program has evolved to pay tribute to Frederick Douglass’ transformative experience visiting Ireland more than 175 years ago, when Douglass was embraced by the Irish people and met the famous Irish reformer, Daniel O’Connell. This immersive opportunity celebrates their exceptional contributions to society and their notable business acumen, inspiring young professionals to emulate their success and apply their principles in the modern world.

12 exceptional student leaders will be selected for a transformative summer internship program in Dublin, Ireland, where they will draw inspiration from the legacies of two remarkable social justice leaders: Frederick Douglass and Daniel O’Connell.

Co-sponsored by CIEE, the Government of Ireland, and the African American Irish Diaspora Network all program costs are covered, including housing and airfare. Students will also receive a stipend for their time on the program.

Check out this amazing research opportunity with the Maryland Sea Grant! They are offering research experience for undergraduates program in marine and estuarine science!

Sea Grant Maryland:

Are you looking for a summer research internship studying ocean, coastal or environmental science? I invite you to check out the Maryland Sea Grant Summer REU program. We bring upper-level undergraduate students to the Chesapeake Bay to conduct individual research projects with a scientist-mentor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. We select undergrads in many disciplines, including engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, ecology and marine and environmental science. Our program runs for 12-weeks from May 22 to August 13, 2023.

Each REU fellow will receive:

  • $7,200 stipend
  • Free housing at your research lab
  • Round-trip travel expenses

In particular, we encourage students from colleges and universities where access to marine science and to research opportunities is limited and who are from groups traditionally underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and math. We believe bringing together students from many disciplines, backgrounds and parts of the country makes for a more interesting and educational summer experience.
