The Alexander Hamilton Society (AHS) is seeking to hire a full-time Program Assistant to support career services for its students and alumni network.

AHS is a non-partisan, not-for-profit, national organization that seeks to identify, educate, and launch young men and women into foreign policy and national security careers imbued with the Hamiltonian perspective of strong and principled American leadership in global affairs. The Program Assistant will have an opportunity to influence the development of the organization, gain experience across a number of functions, and work with rising and established leaders in our network. Responsibilities

• Assist with AHS’s Office of Career Services
  • Build relationships with recruiters at key organizations and offices;
  • Develop and manage career resources;
  • Correspond with students on career-related support;
  • Facilitate mentorship and networking opportunities within the AHS network;
  • Collect and track student information and application status.
• Assist in planning AHS’s National Programs
  • Assist in planning AHS’s Summer Series and Summer Fellows program;
  • Support the Student Leadership Conference and Hamilton National Institute.
• Assist with alumni programming
  • Track information on their career whereabouts;
  • Produce and send a monthly alumni newsletter. 

Qualifications

• 0-2 years professional experience (including internships);
• A commitment to AHS’s mission and principles and an interest in U.S. foreign policy and national security. Being an AHS alumnus is a plus;
• Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills, and a proactive personality;
• Ability to manage a substantial number of projects and contacts at once;
• Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing;
• Experience working with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Powerpoint;

The GW Writing Center is a lively, collaborative, learning environment with paid consultants (the pay rate in 2020-2021 will be $16.50/hour) who come from a diverse array of disciplines. All undergraduates are welcome to apply. Most of our applicants are currently first-year students or sophomores, who go on to work in the Writing Center for several years.

Application materials  are due February 19th, with letters of recommendation due Feb 26th.  Interviews will take place in March.

CCAS STEM Lab Summer Internship Program for Undergraduate Students

PILOT PROGRAM

What is the CCAS STEM Summer internship program?

The 2020 CCAS STEM Lab Summer Internship Program is an opportunity for undergraduate students in lab departments to stay at GW over the summer to work with faculty on the faculty’s research. Students will live in the GW residence halls for an eight to ten week period.

In the summer of 2020, CCAS will pilot this program with up to 8 rising juniors and seniors chosen from STEM fields who offer laboratory research on a competitive application process.

The CCAS STEM Lab Summer internship program will provide a number of benefits for students and faculty:

1. Students get hands on research experience working with faculty on scientific research projects. Students learn how research is conducted, receive research mentoring, and learn about the culture of scientific research.
2. This research experience prepares students for careers in STEM lab fields, including preparation for graduate school.
3. Faculty receive undergraduate student support for their research.
4. Departments bring more undergraduate students into their research enterprise.

How is the Program funded?
CCAS will support for students (rising juniors and seniors) to live in residence halls as well as provide a $1500 stipend for living expenses. Faculty will receive an $500 stipend.

According to the Tax Office 3-8313, the student should receive a 1098T and report this information on their taxes. It can, therefore, have an impact on student financial aid. Please let us know if this impact creates difficulty for a student’s participation.

GW housing will be available for twelve weeks although students are committed to work with their faculty sponsor for eight to ten weeks. We are in the process of arranging this housing and hope to have more details in February.

How will the CCAS summer program be organized?

Student and faculty pairs will apply for the program together. The application process will require a 2-3 page joint application.

1. Statement by the faculty of the research project with the student’s specific contribution to the research project.
2. Statement by the student of their interest in the faculty’s research project, and how participation in the project will contribute to their academic and/or professional goals
3. Short statement by department chair of how the faculty’s research project advances the research objectives of the department and how undergraduate student research contributes to the department’s curricular mission.

Program Requirements

1. Students are expected to work in the lab for forty hours per week.
2. After four weeks, faculty and students will submit a progress report that will summarize the student’s contributions to the faculty’s research.
3. Faculty and students must sign a contract where they both commit to the
program.
4. If student does not adequately participate in summer research, housing support and funding will be withdrawn after the fourth week.

Chander for Council is seeking a resourceful, organized, and self-motivated Communications Assistant with strong writing, research, and social media skills to join our team. The primary focus will be on social media.

Chander Jayaraman is running for an At-Large seat on the Council of the District of Columbia. He is a progressive, independent candidate who has experience as an ANC Commissioner, business owner, and job training and social services program director. He is committed to re-focusing city government’s attention to its core responsibilities—public safety, education, and economic independence—and making city government work for its citizens.

Chander for Council is a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Candidates for the position must have the ability to work independently and remotely, meet tight deadlines, and balance multiple projects at once. This is an unpaid internship. Students who are from DC and attend school elsewhere may be considered for remote internship, depending on circumstances.

As a Communications Intern, you will:

• Support the communications director with creation of social media content

• Assist in drafting press releases, blog posts, emails, website content

• Monitor media and social media

• Suggest and execute paid social media activities

• Attend events with Chander to generate written and visual content

• Conduct research on an as-needed basis Possibly draft and help place op-eds

• Help plan and execute events Help shape the digital media and other communication plans and activities

• Post blogs and other content to the website

Requirements

• Ability to commit 15+ hours per week starting in January 2020

• Current bachelor’s degree candidate or recent graduate

• Strong writing and research skills

• Competence with Canva, MailChimp, google docs, Squarespace, Hootsuite, or similar platforms

• Passionate about local electoral politics

• Basic video-taking (smartphone) and video editing skills

• Preferred: familiarity with District issues, neighborhoods, and politics
