The UHP is now accepting your entries for the 2013 Strasser Writing Prize!
The Strasser prize awards a grand prize of $100 and two runner-ups of $50 to the best papers written in any Honors course over the past year. You can only enter one paper, so make sure it’s your best!
Submit your entry online after reading the full rules (which have changed from last year). This year’s deadline for entries is Friday, March 1st, 2013.

New Year's Resolution: Get $500 [Spring 2013 SURE Award]
Use your winter break down time productively. Did you come up with intriguing questions that just need to be researched over break? Questions like:
- What really is the most economically efficient form of gift giving?
- Could we genetically alter trees to glow, so we wouldn’t need to buy lights?
- What cultural and social paradigms converge at holiday dinner to create such terrible, awkward, uncomfortable conversation?
Well, maybe you have better research ideas than that. Either way, you’ve got just the rest of this month to complete and submit your SURE Award application!

Lil’ Franny Dee made an appearance this week in a UHP publication, but nobody has spotted her yet! To help you out, she appeared in something from the UHP that came this week, so don’t bother looking farther into the past than that.
If you spot her, you can win a $10 gift card. She’s tiny and black and white. (So that means not large and in color.)

You’ve got until December 3, 2012 to nominate your professors for one of several presitigous teaching awards. UHP Profs have been known to win these awards before (they’re pretty great, NBD). Even if they don’t win, just being nominated means a lot. So show a little love to your fav. profs and nominate!

Did you know that Honors students have the exclusive opportunity to win up to $500 for their research? It’s true! Apply to the UHP/Sigelman Undergraduate Research Enhancement Award (SURE) and we might just cut you a check.
We know “Undergraduate Research Enhancement” doesn’t sound that exciting (well, to most people at least, but you are UHPers), but what you can actually do with that money is pretty sweet. Some of last year’s winners used it to buy high tech equipment to learn about Climate Change for their class project, figure out childhood speech patterns, or study Christianity and homelessness. Others — like Jonathan Robinson – combined the money to help him get to a conference in Chicago to present on his work on the Federal minimum wage. The possibilities are endless, but the deadline to apply this semester is October 26, 2012.
