Is there an Inspired Teacher in you?

Earn your teaching license while making a difference in the classroom

The Inspired Teacher Certification Program is now accepting applications for the 2013 cohort of Inspired Teaching Fellows. Grounded in the belief that teaching is an intellectually rigorous and demanding profession, the Inspired Teacher Certification Program uses the unique structure of the residency model to prepare new teachers. Participants in our residency program have a full year to develop the skills of engaging diverse students, managing classrooms, and planning effective lessons by working alongside an experienced Lead Teacher. Instead of being fast-tracked into the teaching profession, our Fellows are better prepared for the challenges of teaching in an urban, high-poverty classroom.
Inspired Teachers are committed to being changemakers in their classrooms and beyond.Of all program alumni, 93% are still working in the field of education, with 75% working in DC public and charter schools.
Inspired Teachers are certified in Early Childhood (PreK-3) or Elementary Education (1-6).
Program Benefits:

  • During the Residency year, Fellows work in the same classroom with an experienced Lead Teacher, observing quality teaching in action and being part of a reflective partnership with another educator.
  • Fellows participate in one of the most intensive first-year teacher training programs in the nation, engaging in coherent, integrated coursework grounded in a rich and research-based philosophy of teaching and learning.
  • Mentors meet with Inspired Teaching Fellows weekly, observe their classrooms, and offer constructive feedback, coaching, and personal support.
  • Fellows are supported on their journey to becoming educational changemakers in their classrooms, schools, and society.
  • Residents work in an innovative urban school that is dedicated to supporting new teachers, becoming immersed in best teaching practices
  • During the Residency year, Fellows have access to AmeriCorps member benefits, including loan deferment and a $5,550 educational award that can be used for student loans or future educational expenses, including tuition at our partner universities: Trinity University or American University.

Inspired Teaching is committed to building a teacher workforce that reflects the diversity of DC’s student population; people of color, speakers of languages other than English, and individuals with disabilities are welcome and encouraged to apply.
