Dr. Bernhard Streitwieser, the Director of REAL, was featured as a National Association of System Heads Refugee Resettlement Initiative Champion. REAL is grateful for his thoughtful mentorship, support, and dedication to uplifting refugees and displaced communities through his work in higher education and humanitarian realms.

Alex Erickson & Brittany Troupe, Maastricht University’s Centre for Migration, Citizenship, and Development’s (MACIMIDE) 10th Annual Work Conference

‘Sharing Information on Education across Resettlement Agencies, Nonprofits, Schools, and Community Spaces for Refugee Students’ at Maastricht University’s Centre for Migration, Citizenship, and Development’s (MACIMIDE) 10th Annual Work Conference in the city of Maastricht, Netherlands, on September 22nd. MACIMIDE is Maastricht University’s interdisciplinary research center for interfaculty collaboration in the fields of migration, mobility, citizenship, development, and family life. Themes from the conference included best practices in refugee and migration research, root causes of migration, power dynamics and systems surrounding the circumstances of resettlement, and innovative techniques and strategies on refugee resettlement and education within the European context.


Dr. Bernhard Streitwieser and members of REAL presented at CIES 2023 on February 19. Their panel touched on several chapters of their upcoming book, Accessing quality education: local and global perspectives from refugees.


Dr. Bernhard Streitwieser was an invited expert for an April 8th webinar on “Building Higher Education and Workforce Pipelines for Resettled Refugees”  sponsored by the University of Albany.
