ETL Tech Tips

This page contains information that will help you with various technologies and applications that may be used in some, or all, of your ETL courses.

Blackboard Quick Start
This is a "quick start" introduction to Blackboard (Bb).

Blackboard Introduction
This short video clip explains more about logging into Blackboard (Bb), and demonstrates some of the more common uses by the ETL Program of this important tool for distance education.

Blackboard Groups
This short video clip explains how to use some of the features in Blackboard (Bb) groups.  Not all ETL courses use groups, but you will eventually be in a class that does.

Data Protection
"The computer ate my homework!"
One of the realities of our lives is that important data can get lost.  That's why it's important to be able to back up files that are important to us.  This can be done in a number of ways, including the use of backup software and an external hard drive, but GWU offers our students another option.  It's called GW BOX, and it's an online storage facility where you can upload files to share and/or store them.  To log on to "GW BOX", go to https://gwu.account.box.com/login and enter your GWU user ID and password.  This short tutorial will give you the basic information for using this very flexible tool.

Many students and faculty need to protect the data on their computers from being seen by unauthorized users.  To that end, GWU has prepared a "how to" document on encryption.

Google Services
Google services (Google Drive, Docs, etc.) are very useful to many of our students, but there's a "glitch" in sharing them back and forth between faculty and students.  Read this short article to understand what that problem is, and how to get around it.
