Course Description: EDUC 6402
Trends and Issues in Emerging Technologies
How do we define the field of educational technology? How did this exciting field originate? How has it evolved and continues to change? What theories, trends, and issues have influenced this continuously evolving field? To answer these questions, you will explore its history and foundations, as well as conduct and synthesize research about an educational technology issue of your choice. You will also investigate career and professional development opportunities to help you keep pace with the field’s transformation. Throughout the semester, you will be challenged to think about the field, its history, and ways it has and is impacting our lives both within and outside of the field of educational technology, as well as in education/training more specifically.
Objectives: In this course, students will:
- Explore the history and foundations of the field of educational technology;
- Examine theories and models of learning and instruction that have influenced the field of educational technology;
- Analyze the benefits of professional associations, organizations, conferences, and resources in the field of educational technology as they relate to your career goals/interests;
- Investigate trends and issues that have shaped or are shaping the field of educational technology;
- Conduct and synthesize research in the field of educational technology.
