Reminder: All graduating ETL Masters Degree students must complete the comprehensive exam during their final semester in the program. See Comprehensive Exam for further information.
Participation in the annual commencement ceremony held in May is open to all ETL Masters Degree students who have applied to graduate in the current Spring semester or who graduated the preceding Fall or Summer. ETL students who will be finishing their coursework the Summer following the ceremonies, and who need no more than 9 credit hours to complete their degree requirements, may participate in the preceding May ceremonies. The maximum of 9 credit hours is firm and not subject to petition.
Procedures:
1. Log into DegreeMAP to confirm that you have completed the specific requirements of your program. DegreeMAP is accessed through the GWeb Information System Student Records & Registration → Student Records Information Menu → DegreeMAP. A grade point average of 3.0 is required for graduation.
2. Send an email notification to the ETL Administrative Office etladmin@gwu.edu within the first two weeks of your final semester, indicating your intent to complete your program requirements.
3. Complete the Master's Degree Graduation Application. Refer to: online graduation application instructions. Do not submit the application unless your degree and program listed are correct. If the online application is not showing the proper degree or program please contact gsehdosl@gwu.edu. Students should submit a graduation application for the semester they plan to complete all academic requirements. Commencement ceremony participation preference is submitted through the application.

Summer Graduates Attending the Preceding May Ceremony: Masters students who need no more than 9 credit hours to complete their degree requirements and are able to obtain the needed academic credit hours during the following summer may participate ("walk through") the preceding May Commencement Ceremony. Summer graduates who elect to attend the preceding May ceremony should submit online graduation application after registering for Summer 2024 course(s) and no later than April 1, 2024.
Late Graduation Applications: After the deadline applications must be submitted using a Late (Paper) Graduation Application and applicants will be assessed a $35 processing fee.
Graduation Services estimates diplomas to be mailed out to students 8-12 weeks following award date.
Official Verification of Degree Completion: After your degree/certificate has been awarded, you can get official verification of completion through a transcript or certification request. If your degree/certificate is still pending, you can request certification of anticipated graduation, but your graduation date will not be posted on your transcript until your degree/certificate has been awarded.
Employers or other third-parties can request verification through the National Student Clearinghouse.
