The SUM Lab @GW is led by Dr. Zhengtian Xu [CV], an Assistant Professor with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Our research focuses on mathematical modeling, optimization, and empirical operations management of urban transportation systems. The SUM Lab aims to understand, promote, and regulate emerging urban mobility services and vehicle technologies.

The SUM Lab is currently looking for one motivated Ph.D. student to start in Fall 2025 [position opening]. Students who hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree from the broad field of science and engineering, with strong enthusiasm for modeling and programming, are highly encouraged to apply.
