Are you thinking about becoming an LA? Check out our brochure and video below to find out about what it's like to be an LA, and how to get involved with the program.
There are many different types of undergaduate teaching positions at GW, including TAs and Lab TAs, Peer Writing Preceptors (PWPs), Academic Commons Tutors, and Athletics Tutors. Some departments use the phrase LA interchangeably with TA. Please note: there are three content areas that are recognized by the GW LA Program -- Biology, Physics and Astronomy, and World Languages. Faculty in these content areas implement all three components of the LA Program model -- LAs work with students during regular class time, all first-time LAs complete comprehensive pedagogical training, and course instructors meet weekly with their LAs to prepare for class.
The application process to be an LA is different for each department:
- Astronomy and Physics
- Professor Mark Reeves is the point of contact if you are interested in being an LA for an astronomy or physics course.
- Biology
- The link to the application for new LAs can be found here
- The link to the application for returning LAs can be found here
- Email Professor Harmut Doebel with the completed form. In addition, all new LAs have to submit a resume and transcript -- and will be invited for an interview with Professor Doebel.
- World Languages
- Contact Professor Margaret Gonglewski if you are interested in being an LA for a world language course.
