In anticipation of GW Research Days next week, I urge you to attend the keynote remarks from Mary Woolley, the President and CEO of Research!America. She will discuss “Your role in Changing Hearts and Minds for Science” at 9 am Wednesday April 11, 2018 in Lisner Auditorium.
Research!America is the nation's largest not-for-profit public education and advocacy alliance committed to making research to improve health a higher national priority. Along with over 380 alliance member organizations—including GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences— Research!America works to strengthen policymaker and public support for research.
Key to this action are data, including almost 30 years of commissioned public opinion polls like America Speaks that gauge American’s attitudes toward scientific and medical research:
- Americans have strong support for research and innovation
- We say public policies should be based on the best available science
- We know federal support for basic research is critical
However, Americans are divided on whether the health care services we personally receive are based on the latest research.
Isn’t this a point where SMHS can make a difference?
Our location in DC makes it easy and important to stay in the conversation.
SMHS faculty were highlighted in Reasons for Research short videos that were developed in collaboration with Research!America. Learn more about how to make the case that investment in research saves lives and money. I look forward to a rich discussion.
