In the beginning of your presentation, you mentioned that you used "sociological theories." Can you discuss this a little more? What theories did you use and how did you apply them?

Great question! In Human Services we often apply different psychological and social theories to real life scenarios to increase the impact we can have in service and everyday life. In our class we use principles from positive psychology like cognitive empathy to practice deep listening. We read about "thick vs thin" service which is a continuum that allows you to gage the level of impact different actions have such as donating to charity versus starting a service project. We have also learned about the "upstream/downstream" effect, which is a way of understanding how problems arise and relate to one another in a community.

Thank you for sharing your project, bringing theories into conversation with your work, and describing them would strengthen this work. It was great to hear that you attended a public meeting, I wondered about the connections here-were there seniors at the meeting-if so were issues that mattered to them discussed-if not why not (was there an option for live stream so they could be informed).

Thank you all for putting together this lovely presentation! It is clear that you all developed a clear understand of Ward 8, and are beginning to understand the complex factors hindering seniors access to services. I enjoyed hearing about the many ways you collected data, such as traditional research, public forums, and interviews of local leaders/officials. As this project seemed to be aimed more generally at understanding the issues present, I'm curious if this project inspired any of you to take/be involved in action to address and change the current circumstances? Great job again!

This is a great introduction to the issues facing Ward 8 seniors and I was impressed by the variety of academic and real world sources. While all of the disparities outlined are upsetting, I was struck by the frustrating lack of internet access
