March on Washington Film Festival

The Office for Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement are pleased to partner with the March on Washington Film Festival (MOWFF) to bring many of its Fall 2019 Film Festival events to GW next week, September 24-28. The events listed below will be held in the GW School of Media and Public Affairs. -Tuesday, Sep 24 - Saturday, Sep 28, 1-10pm: Black Art in America, curated by Faron Manual. An exhibition of legacy and contemporary black women artists explores the stories, and perspectives of black women, as told through art.

- Tuesday, Sep 24, 4-6pm: The REMIX, moderated by GW Professor Imani Cheers;

- Tuesday, Sep 24, 7-9pm: She Lied; Carolyn Bryant and the Murder of Emmett Till, Panelists: Stephanie Jones-Rogers, Associate Professor of History, University of California, Berkeley, and author of They Were Her Property: White Women as Slave Owners in the American South; Elizabeth Gillespie McRae, Associate Professor of History, Western Carolina University, and author of Mothers of Mass Resistance: White Women and the Politics of White Supremacy; Dr. Catherine Clinton, Professor of American History, University of Texas at San Antonio; Moderator: Tina Tchen, attorney, Buckley Sander LLP, former Assistant to President Barack Obama, Executive Director, White House Council on Women, and Chief of Staff to First Lady Michelle Obama.

The March on Washington Film Festival (MOWFF) was founded in 2013 in Washington DC to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. The MOWFF serves as a National platform to tell, celebrate and increase awareness of the untold events and heroes, known and unsung, of the Civil Rights Movement. The festival uses film screenings as a platform for panel discussions featuring filmmakers, academics, and activist and brings together an audience that is diverse in age, class and ethnicity.
