Call for Proposals: 2024 SENCER Summer Institute

The National Center for Science and Civic Engagement (NCSCE) is hosting its annual SENCER Summer Institute online from August 1-4, 2024. This year's theme is "Humanizing STEM: Higher Education's Role in Realizing the Social Contract for Science." The institute aims to change academic culture and deliver on the social contract between science and democratic society.

GW faculty interested in presenting should submit proposals for lightning talks featuring projects that exemplify SENCER strategies by July 10, 2024.

The 2024 SENCER Summer Institute will be held virtually via Zoom, with all sessions running sequentially. Registration fees are $150 for the four-day meeting, with a discounted rate of $100 for NCSCE members. Registration opens on May 27, 2024.

Special topics to be addressed at the meeting include:
- Climate Justice
- Water as a Multi-disciplinary Civic Challenge
- Green Chemistry
- Homelessness, Housing Insecurity, Redlining
- Community-Engaged and Course-Based Undergraduate Research

The institute also welcomes proposals for courses, curricula, and community-based education that:
- Explore the science behind difficult and controversial civic challenges
- Support equity and access to STEM Learning and Student Success
- Integrate Ethics into STEM courses
