The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is accepting submissions for their Scholars Transforming Through Research (STR) program. This advocacy professional development opportunity is designed for faculty/mentors and undergraduate research students. The program runs from November 2024 to March 2025, with a final in-person session in Washington, DC.

Apply by September 20, 2024. More information available here.

The STR Program aims to teach participants how to communicate the impact of undergraduate research beyond academia. Key topics include:

- Setting goals and finding inspiration
- Building relationships with policymakers
- Op-Ed writing and pitching
- Policy brief writing
- Conducting media interviews
- Communicating research on Capitol Hill

Participants apply as institutional teams consisting of a faculty/mentor lead and up to three undergraduate research students. The program includes monthly online training sessions from November to February, culminating in a mandatory in-person session in Washington, DC on March 2-3, 2025. This final session includes meetings with stakeholders and congressional representatives.

"The STR Program is a valuable resource for teaching your undergraduate research students communication tools for translating research into understandable language while also communicating the impact, potential impact, and opportunities this research can have," states CUR.
