The Coalition for Urban and Metropolitan Universities has opened a call for papers for a special edition journal on "Productive Tensions and Uncomfortable Conversations". Submission deadline is June 15th 2023. Learn more here.
Metropolitan Universities journal is pleased to announce an upcoming special issue collaboration with the Place Based Justice Network (PBJN). PBJN is a learning community committed to transforming higher education and our communities by deconstructing systems of oppression through place-based community engagement. Place-based community engagement is defined by the PBJN as a long-term university-wide commitment to partner with local residents, organizations, and other leaders to focus equally on-campus and community impact within a clearly defined geographic area.
This issue, “Productive Tensions and Uncomfortable Conversations,” explores challenges in place-based community engagement. We invite contributors to analyze and explicate the tensions, uncomfortable conversations, and even failures in the work that they do. PBJN has identified four dimensions of these challenges, and contributors are invited to work within one or more of these themes, or to identify additional challenges that they face in their place-based work.
