New Faculty Learning Community: Student Learning in S-L

The Nashman Center's Faculty Learning Communities meet monthly for one year, building relationships across disciplines through shared learning on a topic of interest. Join us for guest speakers, learn about your colleague’s approaches to community engagement, and build relationships with people from other academic departments who share your values for community engagement in academic work.

GW faculty with an interest in community engagement to enhance student learning are welcome to join this 2022 FLC, which will meet monthly on Fridays at noon, via Zoom.

The first topic will be, “Beginning at the End.”  Using the work of Fink on “Significant Learning,” we will discuss our student learning goals and the backwards planning approach to designing learning experiences.

Other topics we will explore this year:

  • Our community partners as co-educators
  • Facilitating engaging classroom discussions
  • Designing assignments for deeper reflections
  • Feedback that maximizes student learning
  • Considerations in labor-based grading
