On November 15th from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the GW Anthropology Department and the Elliott School of International Affairs will be cosponsoring the event, “You must see it before you shoot it”: Photography and the Making of the Black Criminal Other.
The event will take place via Zoom or in Elliott room 505 and will feature Leniqueca Welcome, anthropologist and architect. Leniqueca Welcome is currently an Assistant Professor of Urban Studies and International Studies at Trinity College. She will lead a discussion in “how stabilized public understandings of the Trinidadian violent criminal as a social figure in contradistinction to the moral citizen are produced through visual archives of Black death that circulate in the news and social mediascape.”
