Great presentation Jill! This is an awesome example of community-engaged scholarship since it seems your team collaborated a lot with Martha's Table to develop the most effective program.

I enjoyed listening to your presentation and hearing about your project. What days of the week will the program/lessons take place? As a team, how do your interests or areas of academic study work together to complete the project?

Thank you Maureen! The lessons are planned to take place one day during the school week. The Joyful Food Markets run Monday-Thursday weekly during the DCPS academic school year. The markets are hosted at dismissal at elementary/middle schools across wards 7 and 8. As of right now they are planned to take place on Thursdays at the start of the 2020-2021 academic school year. As a team we are all invested through our studies and extracurricular work in nutrition promotion. Both myself and Nikita are nutrition science majors and through our coursework we have been able to deeply understand and see the need for nutrition education universally. In addition, our classes enable us to be exposed to a range of nutrition intervention approaches that gives a broader view and keeps us open minded as we move through our field work.

Thanks for presenting your work so well and for the relationships you developed in the community to do this work? How will those be sustained over time through you and other students/faculty or with community members taking the lead. I appreciated the clarity of your research here-well done!

Thank you so much Rachel! The project will be sustained through educating the staff and volunteers at Martha's Table to continuously implement the nutrition education program far beyond our time at the markets. In addition, we have built a very strong relationship with Martha's Table and aim to find other students to continue to work with Martha's Table to further expand nutrition education to all of their programming, outside of the Joyful Markets.

Great presentation and the engagement between the researchers and Martha's Table was strong. So many GW students participate in supporting the Joyful Markets -- just wondering out loud here - it would be great to provide some brief training for GW students who will serve there to support nutrition info and ed.
