July 2019

APHA’s Speak for Health Advocacy Bootcamp, held July 15-16, will bring students from all over the country to Washington, D.C., for a two-day training on how to advocate for public health. The event will cover the basics of how to advocate for evidence-based public health policies, including how to navigate Capitol Hill, amplify advocacy efforts with a communications strategy and effectively message important issues.

Day one of the bootcamp will focus on building the skills students need to be successful advocates. In this full-day training with experts, students will learn more about climate change and public health, using this issue as a case study to build an advocacy skillset. On day two, attendees will put their new skills in to action during in-person meetings with their senators and representatives.

Students and recent graduates of all disciplines and professional backgrounds are welcome. The cost for APHA members to attend is $75, and the cost for nonmembers is $225.
